Any resident hall as old as Sorin has many stories about it’s famous inhabitants, my favorite was told to me by Nils Rockne, concerning the 1913 poker games that his grandfather, Knute Rockne, hosted in the ground floor corner room of Sorin Hall. His roommate, Gus Dorais, would swipe candles from the grotto to illuminate the game, while Knute would collect poker money by charging classmates who missed curfew an admission fee to enter Sorin Hall through their window! I’d love to paint that poker game! Kick-It for Kevin is Sorin Hall’s annual fundraising event honoring former resident Kevin Healey who died his sophomore year after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Each year, the men of Sorin honor Kevin’s memory through an annual kickball tournament to raise funds for pediatric, adolescent, and young adult cancer research. Please DM Sorin so I can donate art to that cause.
