Breen-Phillips in morning light is one of my favorite views on campus. The long view of the golden dome, looking west, was beautifully conceived. All of the facades of the most important buildings on campus(dome, church, library, football stadium) all face south…a classical idea…to capture the most sun. Breen-Phillips, was built in 1939 by the donation of alumni and brother-in-laws William Breen and Frank Philips, housed Naval officers in training during the war. The Athletic Department was in the basement in the1950’s…so that was where you’d find Frank Leahy! Both dorms became women’s residences in 1972.
