I recently inherited George Melinkovich’s (All American Notre Dame Fullback in 1932) Notre Dame memorabilia collection. George was a friend of my husband’s parents in the Pacific Palisades…did you know Nancy Reagan was my husband’s godmother? (Oh to be living in the Palisades in the 1960’s! Fly me to the moon! NASA sending telegrams to all the aerospace engineers residing there, giving them updates during the moon launch!) In another post I’ll reveal the gems of the collection. So getting back to the plot, this 1988 license plate holder was in the Melinkovich box. Art brain quickly identified it as a frame, got carpenter to mill stadium bench redwood to 1/4” thick, sourced 25 more license frames, painted Tony Rice, shipping to Tony Rice to sign this morning. I’m well aware of the other possibilities of featuring other heroes from 1988: Zorich…Bolcar…Terrell…Rocket…Holtz…the list is deep. I can almost always get a signature. The wood is stadium bench redwood, and the gold used on the helmets is 24k gold from the dome. Because the benches are planed, I’ll be painting the number and the player of your choice.

Consider the time involved in so much original work: milling the wood, painting the athletes, procuring signatures; it will take almost a month to fulfill your order. But what a fun collaboration!
