The work incorporates marble removed from the Hesburgh Library during renovations in 2024, completed by the architecture firm Shepley Bulfinch.

Also included is maple wood salvaged from a tree that provided shade for the Notre Dame Grotto for over 120 years, connecting the piece to one of the most sacred and historic sites on the University of Notre Dame campus.
