The Green Jersey Game
This painting/sculpture is celebrating one of the most legendary games in Notre Dame history: the October 22, 1977 game where we humbled the 5th ranked USC Trojans! We practice in blue jerseys before the game, but the bright green jerseys were waiting for the team in the locker room. The team went wild! The crowd went wild! The Trojan horse entered the stadium with the team adding epic madness to the mix!
Note the two precious relics from the stadium: the crowd is painted on stadium brick, and the field painted on redwood stadium benches.
The identity of the players are as follows: 55 Bob Golic, 81 Ken MacAfee,20 Luther Bradley, 89 Ross Browner, 32 Vegas Ferguson, 3 Joe Montana, 82 Kris Haines.
Every brick is unique, as is every section of redwood stadium benches I paint the end zone on. In between the 42 degree end zone stripes (to honor Notre Dame’s 1842 founding!) find the signatures of leprechaun Joe Cosgrove (who was inside the horse), and Kathleen Keifer.
